Most of the awards shows are over now and when you look at the tally there were not a great deal of women who won awards this year. Recently I was reading an article and Carrie Underwood was quoted as saying
“There is certainly no shortage of talented ladies out there that want so badly to get their fair shot in this business but there seems to be room for only a few.”
While talking with people I learned that was not the case in the late 90's. There were a great deal of women on the charts but it seems currently the charts are more of a "good ole boys club". Men seem to be dominating the charts and the ticket sales. Yet the right album and play time can change things. It boils down to who has new music out and how often.
Women in duos or groups seem to be doing very well (Lady A and The Band Perry). Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert have had great sustainability but is there any female on the horizon that will make it?
I know we sure have interviewed some great ladies on our Country Insider segment of the Saturday show and they are working their hardest to be heard! Move over country gentlemen.
Until next time.................................
