Carly Pearce powered through a performance on her world tour despite coming down with the flu.
Pearce took the stage on Monday evening (February 24) in Manchester, UK, shortly after sharing a health update on Instagram. The hummingbird star said “the last few days I have been battling feeling sick but yesterday the flu hit me right in the face.” It happened amid “some of the biggest sold out shows of my career,” Pearce said; however, she pledged to “give (audiences) EVERYTHING I have” during her final four shows abroad. She’ll return to the U.S. for additional world tour dates next month.
“I have the flu,” Pearce said as she addressed the Manchester crowd in a concertgoer’s video shared by a fan account for Pearce. “But I will tell you, the fact that I’m even up here versus what yesterday looked like is a freaking miracle, so I can assure you of one thing. Our show looks a little different tonight, but I swear to God I’ll give you every single ounce of everything that I have tonight. And if these songs sound a little lower than my records, it’s because they are. So you’re getting a little bit of ‘Carl Pearce’ tonight, OK? So that just means I need you guys to sing a little bit more with me, alright?”
The fan account, Carly Pearce Connect, said in a separate post that they “would truly have NO IDEA” the singer-songwriter is under the weather. Throughout the show, Pearce delivered renditions of her career-spanning hits, including “Next Girl,” “Country Music Made Me Do It,” “Truck On Fire,” “My Place,” “Every Little Thing,” “Still Blue,” “29,” “Never Wanted To Be That Girl” and more. The set list also included “no rain,” the first track to release from Pearce’s upcoming deluxe album.
Pearce announced the deluxe edition of her latest studio album, hummingbird, on Friday (February 21). She said when she made her announcement that “‘hummingbird’ was my healing journey after ‘29.’ I felt like there were a few more songs to be shared before I close this chapter.” The 19-track deluxe album, hummingbird: no rain, no flowers, will release on March 14.
Pearce said on her Instagram story on Tuesday morning (February 25) that she’s in Glasgow and “resting up” before taking the stage. Next, she’ll perform on Wednesday (February 26) in Belfast, UK, and on Friday (February 28) in Dublin, Ireland. See her list of tour dates here.
